Nampa, Idaho

Profile Lloyd Jr.jpg

Lloyd Gilreath Jr. was born and raised in Idaho. Even before he could walk his mom and dad were taking him camping and fishing and that’s what started his love for the outdoors. Some of his earliest memories of fishing were trout derbies at the age of five at park center pond and he was lucky enough to win a couple of those. As he was growing up, his dad, Lloyd Sr., would take advantage of any time available to introduce him to different kinds of outdoor activities. These included hunting for deer, pheasants, ducks, and geese.

They were always fishing as much as they could, whether it was local lakes and ponds or on the river. His dad got him hooked on bass fishing when he was around nine or ten years old and that’s when both of their lives would change forever! “We had a closed bow boat with an old Johnson on it and I remember dad getting out on the front of it and paddling through Lowell while I was in the back catching fish. That lasted for about two years, then he was done paddling and bought a ski and fish bass boat.”

Lloyd started fishing tournaments around 1995. He began fishing the youth division of the Boise Bass Busters (BBB), which he is still a member and the current president of the club. In conjunction with being a part of BBB, Lloyd is also a member of Idaho Bassmasters. If it wasn’t for tourney fishing, he would probably have had a different outcome in life. While all his buddies were out partying and having fun, Lloyd would be at home getting ready for the Saturday tournaments or going out of town to practice. He fished on the Idaho state team in 2012 and that was an amazing experience for him. He plans on doing that again when his kids get a little older. On top of fishing tournaments, he also played roller hockey all through high school and even competed in a national tournament. “I still have a love for the game!”

Lloyd is married and has two children. He is married to his wife and best friend, Morgan, who he has been lucky enough to keep around for fourteen years! His daughter, Bailey, is 12 and his son, Parker, is 8. Both Bailey and Parker love the outdoors and sports. Bailey started cheerleading this year. She also fishes the IBM tournaments with her grandpa, Lloyd Gilreath Sr. Parker has recently started basketball. Morgan has had her own business as a hairstylist for eight years now.

He loves chasing bass no matter the species but contrary to what most might think, he loves fishing shallow for largemouth! Any chance to pick up a flipping stick or reaction bait and fish the shallows for them big ole green girls, he jumps at it. I think a few of us agree on that one Lloyd!
